AMAKA (EPISODE 13)

SOMEONE NEW

AMAKA: Since when, how could you? Of all the guys pleading with you to date them, why would it have to be my junior brother? Nonso of all people who is yet to start buildng a career? Cynthia, WHY?...

CYNTHIA: I have no excuse, there is nothing i can say to exonorate myself or my actions. But to be sincere, as foolish and senseless as this may sound, i'm truly in LOVE with your brother...

AMAKA: You're only making things worse. HOw can you say that you're in LOVE with my junior brother, a boy you're older than by far ...

CYNTHIA: When did AGE become a factor when falling in LOVE? Since when did HEIGHT determine a SPOUSE? I thought you once said LOVE has no LIMIT or BOUNDARY, werent you the one that said when someone finds LOVE with the right person, she should fight for it ...

AMAKA: We're talking of my brother here. I'm not trying to protect or defend him in any way, i'm only trying to save you the SHAME...

CYNTHIA: I'm ready to face whatever people would say, i'm prepared to endure whatever insults people would throw at me, whatever Humiliation i would go through, as long as it doesnt affect my RELATIONSHIP and HAPPINESS with your brother ...

AMAKA: Do you love him that much? Do you still believe the both of you can be together? Are you really willing go through the HORROR? Is NONSO worth it?...

CYNTHIA: You have not the SLIGHTEST CLUE regarding how much i love your junior brother ...

AMAKA: If thats what you want, i guess i have no other option than to retreat. Lets see how our PARENTS decide your FATE. Its more better than attempting ABORTION...

( Walking to CHURCH for their evening fellowship, feeling really weak from all the chores done in the day, and at the same time, really busy up there in her head trying to ascertain her junior brother's fate as well as her relationship with IKENNA. Oblivious of what was really happening around her, just focused on one task, which was to get to her church at the end of the path. In the process, she bumped into someone. )

AMAKA: ( Shocked ) I'm so sorry. I didnt see you coming...

STRANGER: ( Picking up her Bible and pen ) Nah, its OK. Though i was clearly walking on my own side of the path. Maybe the spirit led you to me...

AMAKA: Spirit huh? Guys Guys Guys, must you always FLIRT with any girl you come across?...

STRANGER: ( Smiling ) This is FATE. I was gradually walking there ( Pointing at the lane he was walking ), then you came right ahead like a drunk driver and crashed into me. Maybe its destined that we meet.

AMAKA: If thats the case, then you're destined to meet every girl in the world, it might be your written FATE...

STRANGER: It seems you're going for the fellowship starting soon. You better be on your way already cause they were saying the opening prayers when i left there ...

AMAKA: You attend my church? How come i never see you around? How come i've never seen you before? ( As if i know any guy in the CHURCH )

STRANGER: I'm not really going to your church, i only escorted my junior sister to the fellowship. I'm rarely in church. I'm not a believer, but the fact i dont believe gives me no right to stop her from believing...

AMAKA: Hmm, i like that. Not preventing from doing something because you dont do it. Why dont you accompany me to the church? And maybe stay for a few seconds before leaving ... (Lets see if the PASTOR would talk some sense into you)

STRANGER: Is that an INVITATION? ...

AMAKA: You can call it ONE. What do you say? Are you coming along?...

STRANGER: How can i refuse such an offer from a beautiful lady like you. Lets just assume its a DATE then ...

AMAKA: Ok na. A date abi, in my church? No Wahala. As long you would stay and listen to the message ...

STRANGER: It would be a PLEASURE to sit beside you till the end of the WORLD. I dont really mind.

AMAKA: (To herself) Na CYNTHIA church i for carry you go, nobody go tell you before you leave the place, lets see how long you would love to sit with me in one spot doing nothing other than listening to someone criticize your main objective of being there in the first place.

TIME:  6:06pm

AMAKA: WOw, that was IMPRESSIVE. To be sincere, i expected you to have left long ago ...

STRANGER: You actually made the fellowship more interesting. You were the only reason i stayed, your precence was really comforting ...

IKENNA: (Sights AMAKA from AFAR talking to the stranger and rushed towards her direction) Hey, Amaka, How Far? When did you come? i looked around for you before the fellowship started but you were no where to be found ... (Looks at the new guy and...) Bros, Good Evening ... Is this your first time?

STRANGER: Not really. But i'm here almost every day to drop my junior sister off at the church. I dont like her wandering off alone, especially after she once reported some guy to me, saying that he is always stalking her...

AMAKA: Really? Stalking her? Did she give you a name? Maybe you can personally warn the guy, instead of walking her here all the time...

STRANGER: Actually, i feel more better following her here all the time. I feel its my responsibility to PROTECT her after mum and dad went out of the country, its just something i love to do, i'm now used to it...

IKENNA: ( To himself) Thats how they act and pretend. Telling her you're your sister's bodyguard so she would find interest in you believing you would be so protective of her as well if she is yours.

AMAKA: Wow, thats really NICE of you. I wish i have an elder brother like you. I would be so so lucky cause no guy (Turned her GAZE to IKENNA) would dare make an attempt to WOO or take advantage of me ...

(Just about then, a young girl of about 16 by the name SANDRA was seen racing in their direction. Calling out to the STRANGER.)

SANDRA: Bro EMMANUEL!!! ...

STRANGER: ( Bends to grab her in his arms ) Sweet Sister, how are you? How was the fellowship?

SANDRA: It was FABULOUS. Looks like you made some new friends. Good Evening SISTER AMAKA. And Good Eve..n...i... (She paused on seeing IKENNA'S Face, and wispered somethin in her brother's ear)
*He is the guy who has been STALKING me, but dont make any move now, so SISTER AMAKA wont see you as a BAD PERSON. You can TREAT him later*

AMAKA: SANDRA, you never told me you have a brother. And uhm, MR EMMANUEL, you never told me your sister's name is SANDRA.

EMMA: And you never told me your name is AMAKA. So you're the BEAUTIFUL ANGEL my sister always talked about whenever she gets home. SISTER AMAKA did this, she did that, she just wont stop prasing you...

IKENNA: ( Turned his face away in SHAME. He has been the one stalking the little girl trying to WOO her and if he makes any wrong move, she might expose him. Waiting for the so called EMMANUEL to leave before he makes a move. )

AMAKA: Sandra! Is that TRUE?...

EMMA: Its almost DARK now, I think we should be on our way. We would see some other time. Maybe if i meet you at church next time or along the path. I told you it was FATE but you doubted me...

AMAKA: Its just a COINCIDENCE. Nothing more. Thanks a lot for staying and also for accepting my invitation. (waves to SANDRA) Good Bye Cutie ...

( When they were out of SIGHT ... )

IKENNA: AMaka, Please, i'm sorry for what happened the last time, (Slowly walking backwards to keep a distance just incase she makes an attempt to give him another beating of his life if he mentions the word she claims is her FAULT) I truly LOVE you, Please, can you give me CHANCE to prove it? ...

SANDRA: Isnt she BEAUTIFUL? ...

EMMA: Yes she is. But she is not as BEAUTIFUL as you are. Your BEAUTY cant be COMPARED with that of anyone else....

SANDRA: Bro. EMMA, please stop it. You know what i'm talking about, so please stop trying to pretend as if you dont know what i'm talking about ...

EMMA: Hmm, SANDRA, Yes, AMAKA is beautiful and well mannered, Quite decent and really persuasive. And she's all you claimed she is.

SANDRA: Go on ...

EMMA: Thats all. What else is there to say?

SANDRA: Have you forgotten your promise? That you would marry any girl that has all the qualities a wife should have, since you said all women are the same.

EMMA: Hey, i was only kidding then when i said you should find a lady that is different from the rest. I never even knew you took it that serious. Besides, this AMAKA of yours may just be hiding under a cloak of pretence.

SANDRA: How do you mean?...

EMMA: I saw the way your stalker was staring at her like she were his long bethroded bride. They might be having some sort of affair beh...

SANDRA: (cuts in) ...dont even go there. Amaka is not like that. Amaka is different, i can bet my life on her to prove her innocence.

EMMA: What exactly do you want? Ehn, Sandra? Amaka is still in secondary school...

SANDRA: ...final year to be precise, she would be heading to the university next year to study LAW ...

EMMA: And someone of her age and status obviously have two or more guys in her net, just like your STALKER...

SANDRA: ...she is very single and she isnt even searching. Which makes her more different from other girls who find it difficult to do without a guy in their lives ...

EMMA: Sometimes, i wonder if you're lying about your AGE. How would a small girl like you possibly know this much about marriage? ...

SANDRA: Well, i read books, a lot of books, to help widen my knowledge and intelligence about things in life ...

EMMA: Is MARRIAGE what i sent you to school to learn? Or are women your field of study in school? ...

SANDRA: Bro. Emmanuel, Bro. Emmanuel!!, Bro. Emmanuel!!!... How many times did i call you? ...

EMMA: Na Wa O, see this small girl, You no get fear again, abi i resemble your mates wey you dey play with for school ...

SANDRA; You must fulfil your promise, you must marry AMAKA, cause that was our DEAL. Unless you can PROVE me otherwise by showing me she is the same as other girls. Only then would i let you be, if not, there would be no peace in this house O... I repeat, NO PEACE!!!... (She walks out of the house, stomping her foot so hard on the tiled floor)

EMMA: Hmmm, this girl means BUSINESS. Let me prove her wrong and show her all girls are the same, they just vary in complextion, size and height. (Takes out his phone, dials a number)

EMMA: (On Phone) Emeka, Abeg show face for my CRIB sharp sharp, i get new JOB for you ...

AMAKA: Alright. I've heard you. You have your chance to show me how much you love me and ...

IKENNA: Thanks a lot AMY. I promise i wont disappoint you, i promise never to hurt you, i promise to always make you happy, i promise to ...

AMAKA: ...Wait first, i havent finished talking. You can save your appreciation for now. First of all, i want you to tell me why SANDRA paused when she greeted you? Are you the guy that has been stalking her?...

IKENNA: (Pauses for a WHILE) Have you heard of a saying that says that "A MAN WHO HAS NEVER LIED TO A WOMAN HAS NO RESPECT FOR HER FEELINGS"?...

AMAKA: Of course. But a man that truly loves his woman would tell her the TRUTH than lie and risk losing her in the future when she finds out the TRUTH ...

IKENNA: Well, YES. I once asked her to date me. But that was a long time ago, and she said NO, so i left her and stopped stalking her ...

AMAKA: Hmm, Why would you ask her to date you? Do you LOVE her? ...

IKENNA: Maybe the actual reason we lie to you women is because we just wanna avoid the other questions that would follow when we are HONEST ...

AMAKA: Fine, Thanks for being HONEST with me. You just passed your first test. But dont relax because my TRUST isnt won that easily ...

IKENNA: I guess its a CHALLENGE then.
