It’s been 5 years after Adaeze gave birth to Chioma. Segun's dad is growing old and over the years, he made a statement that changed Segun's mind towards the issue of having a MALE child. When Chioma was 2 years old, Segun was needed in the village, he got a message his dad was ill. So he went to see him, sitting by his bedside.

His father said, "My son!, you know how hard we struggled to see you through school, you know how many parcels of land I had to give up for your education, working tirelessly night and day in the farm just to see to it that you lacked nothing."

"I know you've done a lot in return, building this house for me, making me someone important in this village, BUT, would it be too much to ask I see my Grandson before my departure? I don't have much time left; I'm growing old by each passing day. Is it too much to ask that I depart knowing there is someone to carry on this empire my father left behind? "

After that visit to the village, his character changed drastically. He lost his patience. Practically became eager to have a male child. And the fact his wife hasn't gotten pregnant for years fuels his desperation.

Adaeze wasn't a born again Christian, she was a regular Christian in a catholic church a few blocks away from her residence but she wasn't really close to God. She just go to church with the motive that going to church every Sunday is one of the duties of a good Christian. She never believed there are other benefits in being a Christian.
