MY DECISION (SECOND CHILD) 2

IN THE BEGINNING

My name is Chioma Adaeze; I'm the only child of Mr. Segun Ayodele and Mrs. Adaeze Okafor. I hail from the eastern part of Nigeria.
LGA: Umuana
State: Anambra

And this is my story…

I was born into a family full of love. My parents were said to be the best couple in town, to the extent many parents envied them. My mum had many friends due to the way she handles her relationship with my dad, many women come to her seeking advice whenever their marriage had a dispute. Likewise my dad as well, he was a living proof that all men are not the same. He never cheated, he never hit my mum, even though many home breakers tried to come in between them, the love they both had for each other grew stronger by each passing day.

My father was from a different tribe, a native of Osun state. Though his family was against the marriage from the very start, they admired the feelings my parents had for each other. But there was peace and things remained perfect.

Until, my mum got pregnant and successfully gave birth to me; The first fruit of her womb. They had me after 2 years of marriage. They never wanted to rush things. So they weren't in a hurry to make children.

(One Evening at SEGUN'S village)
(27th December 10pm)
After DINNER…
SEGUN: Wow! Mama, this is superb, I really missed your meals...

MAMA SEGUN: (Smiles) I doubt that, if you do, you wouldn’t have married an IGBO girl against our wish, it shows you prefer their dishes to ours.

SEGUN:Haba! Mama, don't be like that...

PAPA SEGUN: Talking about marriage, why didn't you bring your wife and child along?

SEGUN: You know it hasn't been long she gave birth; it won't be safe to embark on a long journey, its harmful both to the baby and Adaeze...

SEGUN: If you guys truly care about them, you would have come visiting, I still recall the ordeal you made her pass through when she last came to this village...

MAMA SEGUN: Stop beating around the bush and go straight to the point...

SEGUN: Fine Mama, let's call a spade a spade, you don't care about my family, ever since we got married, have you bothered visiting? Not to ta ... (His mother cuts in)

MAMA SEGUN: ... What is that supposed to mean?

PAPA SEGUN: Silence!!! Not in my presence would an argument be made. Doyin my wife, pack the dishes, I want to have a word with my son...

MAMA SEGUN: I'm sorry my husband...

(Packs the dishes into the kitchen; while Mr. Mike (Segun's Father) asks his son to come closer to him)
__________________________

MR MIKE: My son, the elders say that what your parents can see sitting, the child can't see even from the tallest tree ... You said your wife gave birth to a female ... Am I correct?

SEGUN: Yes Baba, you're indeed correct.

MR MIKE: Can a woman run your empire when you're gone? Would a female carry the name of our forefathers when we're long gone?

SEGUN: Baba, Adaeze is still a young lady, she still have a lot of years before she reaches Menopause. The doctor only said it’s advisable to give a gap of 2 years before we produce another child. Having a male child won't be an issue. You have nothing to worry about Baba. I have this under control.

MR MIKE: I hope so, but promise me something...

SEGUN: Anything BaBa...

MR MIKE: Promise that even when I'm gone, you'll do whatever it takes to carry on the name of this family no matter what...

SEGUN: Baba, you have my word.

The next morning, Segun left for the city without properly bidding his mother GOODBYE. They were still in an unresolved argument. She was upset that the so called Adaeze wants to break the relationship she has with her son. And so she concluded to do all she can to break the union between husband and wife. (Segun and Adaeze)
