PRAYER (CHRISTIANS)
Jesus came into the world, he went through an ordeal during his life time, and died on the cross of Calvary paying for our sins with his blood, despite the power he has to rescue himself, despite the things he can do to save himself, he still went through pain for our sake. He did something no human would do voluntarily to liberate mankind from captivity; no matter the price he or she is promised.
During the ministry of Christ, he healed all that came to him based on the limit of their faith.
The woman in Mathew 15; 28, the man in Mathew 9; 2, it said “…and Jesus seeing their faith…” The same with the woman in Mathew 9; 22. The bible said for without faith, it is impossible to please GOD.
Christ never said it was going to be easy, there is nowhere in the bible where it is recorded that being a Christian automatically excludes you from the troubles of life. He never promised comfort or luxury if you follow him, he only said we should pick up the cross and follow him if we wish to have eternal life.
He warned that there would be temptations along the way. Even he himself in his ultimate power and glory was tempted by the devil himself before he started his ministry. He said there would be obstacles along the way.
To make heaven, you have to be determined, to win the heavenly race, you have to acquire endurance.
Prayer without faith is like a poem without rhyme, many people started this race, some didn’t even get the chance to start it, many gave up along the way, and many dropped the cross for hilarious reasons.
Many gave upon the race with reasons like…
“My mum was sick, I prayed day and night, I fasted for days, but still, my mum passed away, it simply means GOD doesn’t exist”
They give reasons like…
“GOD doesn’t care, I’ve been a faithful servant, and I’ve been a regular and active member of the house of GOD. I sing in the choir, I sweep and help in taking care of the church. I’m also an usher in the church, I’ve never deliberately failed to give in my tithe, and I’ve always been faithful to GOD. I’ve kept all his commandments, I obeyed all his instructions, I pray more than 4 times a day, I tried my utmost best to stay away from sin, and when I commit any sin, I go straight on my knees and plead for forgiveness. I’ve done all that was asked of me by GOD. I’ve never complained when this or that happened, I stood my ground by his side. Now, all I asked for was for the well-being of my son, not even me, but my son, and after everything I did, GOD NEVER CARED.”
So they give up saying, GOD doesn’t exist, saying “of what use is my service to him if just one request out of years of service can’t be granted.”
Mind you, the way of the lord is not the way of man. There are ways which was may look right unto the eyes of a man, but the end thereof is destruction. The lord knows the beginning and the end for he is the alpha and omega. So he has a reason for whatever he does, he has a reason for whatever action or decision he makes.
In churches, you see people shouting and screaming, “GOD, give me this”, ‘lord give me that”. For a prayer to be answered, you need more than just a pure soul, you need faith and a good manner of approach. Yes, it’s true that GOD is not a man, but he said we should talk to him and not scream. He said CRY to me and I’ll answer you in times of trouble, he never said yell at me and your prayers are certain to be answered.
Prayer is a term used to describe communication between man and GOD. There’s this book I once read where a kid brought out 2 chairs, put them in a position where they are facing each other, she sat on one facing the other and closed her eyes. She assumed GOD was sitting in the opposite chair facing her. And she started talking, thanking him for healing her brother who was sick and for saving her father who almost died in an accident. She just prayed in her way talking and communicating like she’s addressing an elder in gratitude and appreciation.
These days, when people pray, you find them repeating the same words and sentences over and over again, making it look as if prayer is a poem to be recited daily. In prayer, you don’t ask like you are entitled to receive, even though you are, you ask in a respective manner, sounding in a submissive tone. (It’s just like yelling at someone to give you something just because he or she promised to give it to you, what gives you the assurance that person won’t decide to disappoint you since you can’t ask in appreciation.) .i.e. father, I know that you are able to do all things, I believe that you have the power to grant my every request for with you lies the power to do all things and I know that you are more than able to do this for me, and I would so much appreciate it if you can grant me this request, and if not, father let your will be done, for you knoweth all things… you don’t go screaming and yelling saying, ‘father, you said all riches are yours, and that we should ask we would receive, so father, give me this or give me that…
